Custom Carpentry & Trim

Built-ins, trim work, custom millwork, and finish carpentry. Joinery designed for the way wood actually moves in mountain Colorado.

Wood at altitude moves more

Indoor humidity in mountain Colorado swings from 15–25% in winter to 35–45% in summer, wider than most of the country. Trim, built-ins, and panels need to be designed for it.

In practice that means floating panels in cabinet doors, gap allowances on large built-ins, miter joints that account for shrinkage, and acclimating wood to the home's interior climate before installation.

What we build

Built-ins (entertainment units, libraries, bench seating, mudroom benches), trim, crown molding, baseboards, wainscoting, door and window casings, custom doors, mantels, exposed beams, stair treads and railings, and mountain-style millwork.

Why finish carpentry matters more here

Mountain homes lean on wood as a primary aesthetic. Exposed beams, T&G ceilings, heavy trim. When the carpentry is right, the home feels custom. When it's off by a sixteenth, you can feel it walking in.

Materials

Solid wood (pine, fir, cedar, hardwoods), engineered wood for stability where it matters, and reclaimed timber when the project calls for it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of built-ins do you make?

Entertainment units, libraries, mudroom benches, window seats, kitchen banquettes, custom closets, and built-in offices. We can work from your sketch, a photo, or a rough description. Most built-ins take 2-4 weeks depending on complexity and finish.

Can you do exposed beams and T&G ceilings?

Yes. Exposed beams, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and timber-frame accents are core mountain home features. We handle the install, finishing, and color matching, working with engineered or solid wood depending on the application.

Do you handle custom doors and mantels?

Yes. Custom doors (interior, barn-style, pantry), fireplace mantels, and one-off millwork are part of our regular work. Mantels and doors are good ways to add character without a full remodel.

What woods work best at altitude?

Pine and fir for general trim and built-ins (locally available and affordable), cedar for outdoor or moisture-prone areas, and engineered wood for stability where dimensional change matters. Hardwoods work fine but cost more. We'll talk through options at the walk-through.

Can you match existing trim or millwork in an older home?

Yes. Matching existing trim profiles in Breckenridge homes (often older Victorian or 80s-90s mountain modern) is part of the job. We can mill custom trim to match, source close commercial profiles, or splice in repairs that disappear.

Have a project in mind?

Built-ins, trim package, mantel, custom doors. Bring us a sketch or just a description and we'll figure out the rest.
